曾帶領團隊設計機器人系統參加由京東集團組織的京東X國際機器人比賽，並獲二等獎與賽事唯一金蛋獎，作為共同第一作者獲得了IEEE-ROBIO 2021 T.J. Tarn 最佳機器人論文獎。呂而立在IEEE Transactions on Automation Science and Engineering， IEEE Robotics and Automation Letters，IROS等國際知名機器人期刊與會議上發表學術論文十餘篇。現擔任Biomimetic Intelligence and Robotics期刊青年編委，機器人頂級會議ICRA 2025，2026 Associate Editor，IEEE TIM，JBHI，ICRA，IROS等國際知名期刊會議審稿人。所帶領團隊長期從事機器人運動規劃，稠密人羣導航，手術機器人設計，點雲特徵提取等方面的研究。
