The project aims to connect the macroscopic scale and microscopic scale within a multiscale modelling framework. The Representative Element Volume (RVE) is constructed with several grains modeled by scanning images. The interactions between grains are considered by a contact algorithm with voxel meshes to reduce the complicities of meshing and the number of unknowns. The macroscopic behavior would be described relying on the material point method (MPM).

The project will couple the finite element method (FEM) and the discrete element method (DEM) to simulate the interactions between membrane and particles. Some industry parameters will be optimized based on the simulations. The company cares about the distribution of sizes of particles, the velocity of the roller, and et ac.
