Explosion combustion parameters of oxygen enriched hydrogen-air mixtures

会议 Ninth Joint US Sections Meeting of the Combustion Institute
Combustion of fossil fuels has been the primary source of energy for more than 150 years. One promissing alternative method of energy production is nuclear fusion which is currently investigated within the framework of an international program, the ITER project, International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor. One limitation of these approache is that it would be mainly employed for electricity produc- tion which cannot be stored. On the other hand, the energy produced through nuclear fusion could be employed to produce hydrogen through water hydrolysis. In case of an accidental event, flammable mixtures containing hydrogen could be produced and create an oxygen enriched hydrogen-air mixture. Despite the extensive amount of experimental data available on hydrogen, the combustion properties of these particular mixtures are not well characterized. The laminar burning speed, the ignition delay-time behind reflected shock wave, and the detonation cell size were measured experimentally investigated over wide ranges of composition and equivalence ratio. The performence of five detailed reaction models were evaluated with respect to the present data.
