Introduction to the laboratory

Bin Zhao is a professor affiliated with the national key lab of Diabetes Immunology, Ministry of Education, Furong laboratory at the Central South University, as well as the National Clinical Research Center for Metabolic Diseases at the Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University. He completed his Ph.D. at Karolinska Institutet (CMB). Following his doctoral studies, he pursued postdoctoral training at the University of Pennsylvania and the National Institutes of Health. His research group employs single-cell sequencing, proteomics, metabolomics, and conditional gene knockout mouse disease models aiming to identify crucial molecules that regulate T and B cell development, differentiation, and metabolism, with a particular focus on their involvement in the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases. In addition to their experimental work, his group also harnesses large population cohort databases (Finland, the United States, and China) to build risk prediction models for chronic metabolic diseases and mortality that include metabolic risk factors and multidimensional exposure factors. As first author/corresponding author, he has published in esteemed journals, including Circulation (2022), Nature Immunology (2019), BMC Medicine (2022), European Journal of Epidemiology (2022), Trends in Immunology (2021). Additionally, he contributes his expertise as an associate editor for journals such as BMC Medicine, Phenomics, and Frontiers in Immunology.
